Name: Wades-In-Embers
Race: Lavasoul (Magma Efrit)
Class: Oracle at first level with the Flame mystery and Blackened curse, Theologian Cleric with the Ash domain at subsequent levels.
Alignment: Neutral
Diety: Sarenrae
Background - Wades-In-Embers knows little of his heritage. His mother was a human and weaver by trade. She was but 17 when she met a handsome fiery haired traveler passing through her hometown. The two had a quick and passionate affair. Not long after the mysterious man left, a child was born. Wades-In-Embers does not remember his birth name nor the name of his mother only that his father was most likely an Efreeti from the Plane of Fire. Probably visiting the material plane for his own whimsical delights.
The boy was raised in Barta, and from an early age the villagers were suspicious of his fiery gold hair and unusually warm skin. Slowly the boy began to show other unnatural abilities. Candle flame and torch light would seem to bend to his will. And not long after his third year it was rumored that he could conjure flame on his own.
On the eve of the summer solstice festival the entire village was gathered in the great hall. Tragedy struck at the height of the celebration, a sudden and massive firestorm engulfed floor and walls causing chaos as the townsfolk fled in terror. When the ash and smoke settled naught but cinders seemed to be left in the ruins. The villagers began to sift through the debris and found the child, still within the arms of what they discerned to be his mother. For she always wore the brass and obsidian necklace from her former lover. So hot was the child that it took the smith clad in his heavy apron and gloves to pull the boy from the embers. His golden hair was un-singed yet his arms, from fingertip to elbow were burnt with soot and blackened by the inferno.
The village elders did not debate long, it was decided that the boy was to blame for the tragedy. In their terror and fear they believed it was best for the boy to be exiled. So the smith volunteered to take the boy high into the mountains, where he was left at the foot of the shrine of Sarenrae to be an offering of appeasement to the goddess.
Sarenrae took pity upon the child, she sent forth three Fire Mephits from her realm to care for the boy. The Mephits, fearing for their safety in such close proximity to the village, took the boy south into the scorching dunes. Here they raised him, teaching him the way of fire and ash. The young boy was given the name Wades-In-Embers by the Mephits, and they taught him Ignan as best they could.
After fifteen years Wades-In-Embers began to grow restless as news of the world eventually found its way into the farthest reaches. He yearned to seek out this new King and see the fiery eruption of Mount Lorin. The Mephits could sense his curiosity and agreed he had learned all they could teach, they returned to Sarenrae, bidding the young Ifrit farewell.
Personality - Wades-In-Embers is honest to a fault, cynical, and stubborn. He often refers to himself in the third person, a habit from spending his formative years with Fire Mephits. Many often find the Ifrit aloof and distant. Unlike other Ifrits, Wades-In-Embers does not anger quickly.
Appearance - Average height for a human with bright golden hair that flickers in the presence of fire and light. His skin is a russet tan except for the blackened scars emanating up his arms. His eyes appear to be an ashen grey. He wears a brass breastplate over a crimson tunic and loose fitting pants with knee high boots. At his side he caries a black bladed scimitar. Beneath his tunic he wears his mothers brass and obsidian necklace.
Goals:
- Meet the new King
- See the fires of Mount Lorin and discover what caused the eruption
- Discover his true father
- Atone for the tragedy in Barta
- Serve Sarenrae
