GM: Hydranis
PCs: Monty, Lyra, Mizu
Lyra stood along side the lifeless body draped in a dark cloak upon the small cot. The boat rocked carelessly, making the sorrowful shadows cast by the lantern slowly reach out and caress the deceased. For once the darkness was strangely comforting to the halfling. He had been a friend of the shadows, and now that he lay still it seemed fitting that his ally kissed his mortal remains with a shadowy silence. Lyra extinguished the lantern, bathing the room in darkness. She took one final look at her friend lying on the bed, turned and closed the door behind her, her head awash with the sorrow of the day...
The party set out from Alcadia via the mass teleportation scroll provided by Zanthos. Monty read the incantation as Lyra and Mizu stood by, a quick flash and the party arrived without incident at the port of May. Their ship sat untouched in it's berth, and the group quickly boarded. It was decided that they would travel to the house of Cornelius and beseech his aid in taking down Grimke. The journey towards Lenell took nearly 3 days, and after a short cruise along the coast Lyra spotted a small cottage near the shore.
The trio went ashore, leaving Sir Garileth and Mavik aboard the ship. The group approached the house cautiously when they spotted several zombie workers milling about. No doubt they were workers Cornelius raised to do his bidding. At first the party relaxed and continued, however the zombies had other plans. They ceased working and turned toward the party. Shuffling with deadly intent. Monty and Mizu moved forward to meet them as Lyra rode around the flank. Mizu began to swiftly dispatch the mindless drogues while Monty supported him. Mean while Lyra managed to reach the cabin and began pounding on the door to alert Cornelius. Alas, it seemed the necromancer was not in. The party had no choice but to continue to fight the zombies as they looked for Cornelius. A trivial task for a groups such as this.
Mere moments later the group stood as the zombie remains lay strewn across the ground, they began to compose themselves as they continued their hunt for Cornelius. However the sound of crackling bones and sinew began to rise from the corpses. The party readied themselves as the undead rose up again, somehow seeming more intent upon the party. One of the zombies was distinctly stronger, the bones writhed as it was possessed by a hideous snake like parasite, a deadly beast known as a Morgue. The party began to defend themselves and, the newly awakened creatures slowly were driven back, but the Morgue persisted as it struck out against Mizu. The small halfling was struck by a mighty blow and seized as his body was wracked by a powerful venom which left him paralyzed.
Lyra and Monty watched in horror as the Morgue and zombies rent his body, tearing at his flesh. They moved forward to press their attack. Hope quickly rose as Monty was able to stabilize Mizu and defeat several of the zombies, however it vansihed as quickly as it came. The Morgue once again tore into Mizu despite the groups effort. Monty and Lyra redoubled their effort and eventually won the day, yet it was a bitter sweet victory, for the body of their beloved companion lay broken upon the battlefield. With a somber mood the Monty and Lyra bore their friends body back to the ship and layed it heavily upon his cot.
Grimke watched the party mourn their dead friend, he attempted to offer consolation granting Mizu one last chance to speak with them before he was drawn into the darkness forever...
The party had now been tasked with one final wish of their friend, to usher his remains into his ancient homeland and lay them to rest.
