GM: Hydranis
PCs: Octavian, Halor, Bruzor, Drake
Upon finally locating a merchant vessel captain willing to transport the party, Octavian, a stranger, offers to pay for each individual. The conditions for his generosity are to either pay him back or agree to help him. The travelers acknowledge the terms and board the ship.
The party sets sail from an eastern port of Palperoth with Pause, the eastern port of Taroson, as their destination. The long trip gives Octavian an opportunity to learn more about those he has chosen. A month away from reaching Pause, Octavian gathers the party around a table on the deck to explain his terms in more detail. Drake sits to his right – a well mannered gentleman, thus far, with suntanned skin covered gently by a blue cloak. Bruzor sits to his left (on the deck) – a massive and muscular figure, draped in a dirt covered black cloak and cowl over his head; only his bright blue eyes can be seen above the scarf wrapped around his face, which makes his already slow speech even more apparent. His shield and war hammer are never out of reach. Halor sits next to Bruzor – a mountain of a man, slightly taller than Bruzor, covered in tattoos from head to toe wearing hide armor and a shield. He has not said a word the entire trip.
Toby, a crewman, rests against the ship rail nearby scribbling furiously onto some parchment. The task is dangerous with much reward, fame, and treasure. A dragon has stolen something of value from Octavian and his people, the Elves of Moonbrooke. “Track the dragon, discover its lair, and the task and your debt to me will be fulfilled. Your task is to only locate the dragon. Should you wish to kill it, the hoard is yours to share amongst yourselves.” The party agrees to Octavian’s request to help him.
Only one week out from Pause a severe storm rages against the ship. The lone sail upon its 50 foot mast quickly falls down as the storm knocks its pulley clean off. Halor and Bruzor grab hold of the rope acting as anchors while Drake carefully climbs the mast to replace the pulley and sail. Just as Drake reaches the top, 3 greenish/blue scaled sahagins climb aboard the ship intent on killing everyone on board. Octavian is nowhere to be found. One sahagin digs its sharp claws into Halor. Bruzor, standing nearby, smashes its skull and decapitates it with his war hammer.
The ship suddenly rocks harshly sending Jordan and Toby, crewmen, overboard into the stormy seas. While the rest regain their footing, Toby is magically lifted out of the water and floats back onto the ship. Unfortunately, as soon as he touches the deck, one of the sahagin charges and tears into him. Drake comes to his aid, killing the beast, but not after leaving Toby an inch from death. Drake begins doing everything he can to save Toby.
Meanwhile, Halor continues to defend himself against the onslaught of the sahagin. Jordan, overboard after the ship rocked, flies onto the deck as if by magic. Suddenly, the sahagin attacking Halor erupts into flames as Octavian floats above Jordan. The sahagin screaming out in pain and rage scurries to the side of the ship in hopes to make it back to the sea. Halor, now able to attack, swings his glowing axe killing the creature. He moves swiftly to Toby’s side and assists Drake in stabilizing him.
A few hours later the storm passes, the sky opens, and the journey continues in peace.
Now just one day until they reach the port, spirits are higher, Toby is alive and healing well. He feels indebted to the party and will accompany them on their quest to seek out the dragon.
A few short moments later, walking up onto the deck from below is a man none of the party knew was on board. He was tall, but short compared to Halor and Bruzor, skinny, dark skinned with some scars, wearing baggy clothes, no shoes, bald, one eye half closed, and leaning on a cane. He was clearly a warrior. He looked upon the members of the party and nodded pleased. “What is it we have here? A band of misfits? What troubles you?” the man spoke with an accent not commonly heard. Drake replies, “I’m looking for someone, to determine if they are guilty of a crime committed against my village.” Octavian recognizes the man and greets him pleasantly. “What can Jaheem do for you?” the man calls. Halor speaks, for the first time, directly to Jaheem and calls him a “trader.” Jaheem misunderstands and asks, “Why traitor?” Halor clarifies, “You sell things. I seek herbs for healing.” Jaheem smiles, “We will do trade later.” Jaheem addresses the party, “I am a collector. If you see this I seek, I will reward in jewels. I am looking for a jewel myself, the size of a grapefruit, called the Kraken’s Eye. It rests in the shallowest pool of the western seas. I failed to find it the first trip. I will sail again to the west.”
Jaheem looks at Drake, “Where is your target?” Having a 2 week head start on him, Drake does not know. Jaheem says, “Stick to the Velis River for travel. The mountains are orc filled. The forest is not safe.”
With the helpful tips from Jaheem, and a dangerous quest ahead, the party prepares to dock at Pause and begin their journey…
