GM: Hydranis
PCs: Lyra & Monty
Kip lead the party out of the caverns and into the frozen tundra of the north. A quiet snow blanketed the land and a heavy snow fell from the sky as the party traveled the remaining distance to Alcadia. After a few hours the party stood upon the cliffs overlooking Alcadia as Kip beckoned them forward (see attached illustration)
Once in Alcadia the party rested for the evening at a comfortable inn. By the morning the group decided to search for clues leading to the next trial. Lyra checked the notice boards around town, only finding a reference to a job for Yeti furs. Sir Geralith and Mavic made their own way but came up empty handed. Meanwhile Monty spent time searching local books in an effort to find a reference to the trials completed by Levid.
Later that evening in the tavern Monty read through some of his books and began recalling his encounters with Jonas Thyllen in the past. He began to tell stories and a sizable group of patrons listened on. Throughout the course of the story, Monty realized he knew the answer to our problem. The legendary wizard Zanthos is said to reside somewhere in or near Alcadia. Monty produced a letter that he had received some time ago, he opened it and revealed the location of Zanthos to the party. With due haste the group went to seek advice from the mighty wizard.
The house of Zanthos was peculiar, nearly all of the objects were augmented with arcane possession. They moved in perfect concert to the bidding of their master. The party entered and was ushered into a dining room where animated decor and tableware brought a small feast for the party to enjoy. After a while the food was whisked away and a door opened to reveal another room. Seated in the center of the room was an ancient elf, Zanthos himself. The party began to explain their plight and quest. Explaining that they sough the next trial to reclaim the Gornogia.
Much to the parties dismay Zanthos explained that the trials were a sham. Merely created by Grimke to ensure only someone he deemed worthy could wield the sword. Zanthos explained that the trials had never been completed by anyone and that they were nearly impossible. He advised that the party should banish Grimke, thus revoking his power over the Gornogia and making it possible to draw the sword from its stone sheath. Zanthos cautioned that banishing Grimke was no easy task, however it was the quickest way to ensure access to the sword as time was running short since the smoke pouring from Mt. Lorin seemed to grow darker by the day.
The party was taken aback by the revelation. However after a bit of debate it was decided that the best course of action would be to confront Grimke. In an effort to aid the group, Zanthos bestowed the ghost touch ability upon the weapon of each party member. The group then decided that it may be best to consult with the necromancer Cornelius, since he had experience with the dead. The party then asked for Zanthos' help in returning to the Legacy via teleportation. This was certainly within his power, however he said that he could not interfere any further. Instead he directed Monty to an old tome which had a scoll of Mass Teleportation folded between the pages...
