In the PRD, it is stated that the Paladins divine bond ability, when applied to a mount, functions like the Druid animal companion ability. It also states that while horses are common, other exotic mounts are suitable. To my mind that means that animal companion creatures that can be mounted are open for the paladin divine bond ability, at the GM's discretion. As we have a paladin about to come of age on the subject, Brian suggested that I post the topic here for discussion. Should a player be able to choose their own mount? Should it be up to the GM? What kind of choices should be available.

Just like familiars etc. I think that players should have some amount of choice when it comes to what they receive when it applies to their class. I would have no problem if the player would submit to me a few ideas on what they wish to have, I will look it over and make sure that it will fit the setting, then we could incorporate it. Also, if other players object to the decision, it is always up for discussion amongst the group.

So it looks like we agree that there should be some degree of reasonable choice, at the GM's discretion. Now I just hope that I can roleplay my way into a mount before the big session.

I think we can call this one case closed. You may not get your rhino next session, since you're all still in the city, but I have ideas on how to bring one in.
